Siberian cats shed moderately—less than many breeds with a similar coat type. They won't typically leave loads of hair behind after lying on your lap or any other surface. Most of the shedding occurs twice a year: In spring, when they lose extra fur that kept them warm during the winter.

Purebred Siberian cats are low-allergenic, so they are more suitable for homes with allergy sufferers. Ragdoll cats carry a regular amount of Fel d 1 in their bodies, so people with allergies should avoid them. Mixed breeds like the Siberian-Bengal or the Munchkin-Ragdoll are also not hypoallergenic.

Because the Siberian produce far less Fel-d1 makes them hypoallergenic and a welcome option for allergy sufferers. The average cat produces 63,000 micrograms of Fel-d1 per gram. The Siberian produces approximately 200 micrograms per gram. Most mild to moderate allergies sufferers have no allergic reactions.

Siberians are generally very healthy cats with a long lifespan of 10–18 years.
